Glass with other additional functions
Bullet-resistant glass
Bullet-resistant glazing is an essential safety component for high-risk areas that provides protection against ballistic threats. GEWE-safe® is laminated safety glass from SCHOLLGLAS, which is specifically adapted to the required resistance classes in bullet-resistant variants with project-specific structures. The special glasses consist of several layers of glass as well as resistant polyvinyl butyral films (PVB). The number, dimensioning and nature of the components depend on the desired resistance class. For commercial applications, the European standard DIN EN 1063 defines 9 classes from BR1 to BR7 as well as SG1 and SG2. While BR classes define protection against projectile ammunition, SG classes are specifically designed for shotgun ammunition.
Bullet-resistant GEWE-safe® glasses are used in banks, embassies, police stations, prisons and armoured vehicles, among other places. In Germany, they must meet strict test standards, whereby resistance to defined calibers and ammunition types is tested under standardized conditions. In addition to the protective function, transparency and light transmission are largely retained, thus offering an inconspicuous and attractive security solution. Through continuous development, modern bullet-resistant glazing is becoming more and more efficient and offers reliable protection without compromising the appearance of a building or vehicle.
Highlights
Protection against attacks with firearms on persons and at the same time increased protection of material assets
Despite the increased safety, only minor compromises in the incidence of light
When further processed into insulating glass, no restrictions on thermal insulation or sun protection
