Safety glass

Walkable glass

GEWE safe® is a modern laminated safety glass from SCHOLLGLAS, which has special resistance to mechanical loads in a wide variety of structures. In the GEWE safe® step variant for walkable glass surfaces, it combines at least three glass layers: ESG / TVG and float glass with high-strength interlayers of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) or ionoplast films to ensure maximum load-bearing capacity and safety. As a result, GEWE safe® step not only withstands enormous point loads, but also remains stable in the event of an extremely unlikely glass breakage in that it offers sufficient residual load-bearing capacity for people on the glass and the dead weight of the glass elements.

For safety reasons, the top layer of walkable glass surfaces is usually provided with slip resistance – the possibilities range from appropriately tested structured glass to ceramic screen printing patterns.

Used in spectacular architectural projects, modern shopping centres, airports, museums or exclusive residential buildings, GEWE safe® step enables transparent floors, glass bridges or floating platforms.

The specifications of GEWE safe® step meet the requirements of the DIN standard 18008-5, which defines load-bearing capacity and breakage resistance for walk-on glass.
