Heat-strengthened glass (TVG)

Heat-strengthened glass (TVG), just like toughened safety glass (ESG), is produced by a precisely controlled process of heating and subsequent controlled cooling; the latter, however, is somewhat slower than with ESG. This gives it mechanical strength and thermal shock resistance that are between those of float glass and ESG. TVG from SCHOLLGLAS production can be purchased under the brand name GEWE-tvg^®.

Its special properties make GEWE-tvg^® the ideal choice when float glass cannot withstand the mechanical loads, but ESG cannot guarantee the desired residual load-bearing capacity in the event of damage due to its characteristic fracture structure. GEWE-tvg unfolds its full potential, especially when processed into laminated safety glass (LSG) GEWE-safe^®®. It combines the increased strength with a cullet formation that is atypical of float glass in the event of breakage and is absolutely individual to the pane. This combination is the ideal basis for fall protection, point-fixed façade elements and overhead glazing, among other things. GEWE-tvg® is manufactured in our factories in Nossen and Lommatzsch in accordance with EN 1863.

Important: Subsequent processing such as cutting or drilling is not possible with GEWE-tvg^®, analogous to GEWE-dur, as it only acquires its special properties after ^{heat treatment.®}
