Glass with other additional functions
Glass with shear-resistant films
GEWE-safe®advance S laminated safety glass, which uses the so-called “shear composite concept”, is used where high load-bearing capacity, safety and rigidity of the surfaces are required. A particularly strong bond of the glass layers with a thermoplastic layer (ionoplast) instead of a standard PVB film dramatically increases the load capacity. In comparison, these intermediate layers have up to five times higher strength and a hundredfold increase in stiffness. For this reason, load-bearing components such as glass bridges or large-area glass roofs, which have to withstand high wind or snow loads, are often realized with such laminated glass. Façade and overhead glazing also benefit from this technology, as they can safely absorb larger loads with large spans and become an active structural element of the building envelope. Thinking the other way around, the concept enables the production of thinner and lighter laminated safety glass with the same stability, which brings design advantages in terms of design freedom of frame systems and costs.
Under the brand names GEWE-safe® advance (for the general product properties) and advance S (in order to be allowed to apply the shear composite regulated in the AbZ), the SCHOLLGLAS Group produces and sells a portfolio of laminated safety glass with shear-resistant films. These glasses stand for added safety and energy efficiency. This makes them an important building block in our service for contemporary architectural objects.

Top applications for glass with shear-resistant films
Technical details and features
Processing
- LSG with ionoplastic interlayers has a much lower moisture absorption capacity and is therefore also very suitable for use in damp rooms
- it can be easily integrated into insulating glass
Glass thicknesses
Project-specific.
- Due to the bonding effect, the glass thickness can be significantly lower compared to an LSG with standard PVB film
Maximum dimensions
- on request
Other
- The strength of the bonding effect between the individual discs depends on the temperature and the duration of the load.
