Insulating glass with fire protection function
When it comes to modern fire protection, professionals today can rely on tested systems with reliable protection against fire, heat and smoke and equally high design flexibility – without restrictions for light-flooded living and working spaces. As a glass wholesaler, we offer you high-performance fire protection glazing in the modular principle for preventive structural fire protection in interior and exterior applications.
The products are more than “just” fire-resistant glass: they are system components that have been tested in combination with frames, brackets and seals and approved as complete components in accordance with the general building authority approval (AbZ) or approval in individual cases (ZiE). With fire resistance classes from E30 to EI120, they meet national and European standards, EN 13501-2 and EN 357.
The fire protection classes according to EN 357 and suitable fire protection glass
- Class E: Room closure – Objective: No flames or flammable gases from the fire-facing side. Glass is usually toughened glass or laminated glass with fire protection film.
- Class EW: Room closure + radiation – same as E, but the radiation transmission must not exceed 15 kW/m2. This is achieved by laminated glass with a special, reflective fire protection insert, usually in a 2-pane structure.
- Class EI: Room closure + heat shield: Multiple laminates with fire protection films/inserts or gel fillings. On average, the temperatures on the fire-facing side of the glazing must not be more than 140°C above the initial temperatures, thus protecting people from burns.
Furthermore, the standard regulates the following resistance times until the glass fails, i.e. if the flames pass through the glass or construction from the fire side: 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes (in special cases there are also 15 minutes). Fire protection glass is classified accordingly and is characterized by a combination of insulation and resistance time. E.g. E30, EW30 or EI90.
As a glazier, interior design company or façade construction company, we not only provide you with tested glass in various designs – from mono glass to functional insulating glass with sound, sun or heat protection – but also competent advice on system selection, processing and labelling. So that you can plan safely, execute in compliance with the law and concentrate fully on your craftsmanship.
