Base glass
Spy Mirror
GEWE-mirror® spy is a special mirror glass that has a multi-layer, chromium-containing coating instead of a conventional silver layer. This is applied to the glass using the magnetron process.
What is particularly exciting about this product is that with a light transmittance of 8%, the light intensity behind the glass determines what becomes visible: Under the same lighting conditions in front of and behind the pane, GEWE-mirror® spy appears as an elegant, silver-coloured mirror on both sides. As the difference in brightness between the front and back increases, it transforms into a transparent glass when viewed from the darker side, revealing what is hidden behind it. On the lighter side, the reflective effect remains unchanged. Since this effect is based exclusively on the difference between light and dark between the two rooms, it can be easily reversed by changing the lighting conditions.
Thanks to the special coating, GEWE-mirror® spy is particularly resistant, i.e. scratch and corrosion resistant, and also insensitive to water vapour and cleaning agents. In addition, it can be preloaded or laminated and is compatible with modern clamping or point brackets.
Therefore, reflective glass is used in a variety of ways both indoors and outdoors: as fine showcase glass, in partition walls or as a light cut-out in doors to surveillance and sales rooms. Or as wall cladding in wet rooms where high humidity, disinfectants and cleaning agents are the order of the day, such as in indoor swimming pools. Architects and interior designers in particular appreciate the design possibilities that GEWE-mirror® spy offers – whether for visually enlarging a room, for enhancing lighting conditions, or for creating new perspectives. By sandblasting, removing the chrome layer with a laser or enamelling, GEWE-mirror® spy becomes an extravagant decorative element in the interior. Of particular interest for processing in insulating glass units: if required, the all-rounder can be combined with other functions such as fall protection, sound insulation and injury or burglary protection.
