Anyone who travels a lot by train, bus and train knows the imponderables of public transport. Precisely because of the dynamic changes in departure and arrival times and timetables, passengers rightly expect to be informed by their public transport provider at any time about changes in the timetable.
In the waiting areas of the stations, this is done by an information system which, in addition to the classic timetable showcases for displays and paper notices, also includes the displays or single-line “font displays” of the Dynamic Passenger Information System (DFI). In the passenger compartments of the means of transport themselves, on the other hand, interior displays based on large LED matrix or LDF/TFT displays are used, which also often contain elements of infotainment, e.g. passenger TV.
The required durability and resistance to weather, large temperature fluctuations, vandalism and the special features of overhead installations of the screens place extreme demands on the housings. On the glass side, this means uncompromisingly high-end: overhead, laminated safety glass (LSG) made of heat-strengthened glass is used; in all public areas, splinter-binding laminated safety glass made of ESG or float glass – ideally with anti-reflection coating.
