Today, the door leaves, side panels and skylights of the entrance portals are made of steel, aluminium, plastic or wood, as well as glass, which is individually adapted to the desired dimensions, design ideas, safety standards, thermal, visual and sound insulation specifications. In this way, an almost infinite game can be played with the options of the glass units designed as ESG or insulating glass. From simple clear glass to satin-finished panes with their diffuse translucent optics, ornamental glass with geometric structures, coloured or printed glass, whose décor may continue over other parts of the front door.

The extreme variant in terms of the proportion of glass – the version as a metal frame system with large-area glazing – offers maximum light output for bright hallways and is ideal for apartment buildings or commercial entrances.

Less visible, but highly relevant, are the inner values of the glass units. The use of laminated safety glass (GEWE-safe®) increases burglary protection or acts as effective sound insulation, e.g. against road noise. With the help of double or triple insulating glass, high insulation values are achieved.

In times of urban densification and building without basements, additional entrance doors in residential buildings have long been just as relevant. For example, garage or side entrances are now also equipped with energy-efficient security or functional doors under appropriate aspects, the same applies to hobby rooms. In the historic industrial building, for example, spacious loft doors open up a view of the courtyard.
