Glass stairs, walkable glass, glass floors
Glass balustrades and French balconies
Perhaps because it is an apparent contrast between our striving for safety and the visible almost nothingness, glass balustrades are very popular. The constructions made of glass and metal elements are used in a wide variety of environments. Whether as an opaque balcony balustrade for private apartments, as transparent glass railings in stylish offices, as French balconies in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows of luxurious hotels or as elegant glass galleries along the promenades and galleries of today’s malls – indoors and outdoors: glass railings are omnipresent.
Although they seem light and almost floating, the innovative bodies are safe, stable and reliable. Mechanically, the glass is held in place with point holders, floor glass clamps or aluminium profiles and mounted on existing components. Glass fillings are often also fixed between the posts of a railing system by means of clamp holders. The upper end of the glass also offers a wide range of options – from stylish handrails, glazing bead tubes and U-profiles to the purist, discreetly protective grinding of the edges where permissible.
Since these are fall-resistant constructions due to their nature, the panes are almost always produced as laminated safety glass. This ensures the uncompromising cohesion of the glass units even if a pane breaks, without the detachment of splinters, with a defined residual load-bearing capacity. Depending on the application with the resulting requirements, float glass, TVG or ESG(-H-Fü) is used as the basis for these laminated safety glass units.
The wealth of variants as well as functional and architectural aspects bring all options for the optical design of glass into play. First and foremost, the use of solid-coloured lenses or coloured PVB films, extra-white float lenses, mirroring, satin finishes as privacy screens, up to the printing of bird protection patterns or attractive decors with ceramic colours.
What unites them all is the feeling of high-quality, modern surfaces, transparency and lightness and a high level of security.
