Chimney attachments and spark protection plates
Among the more luxurious features of the living rooms of many single-family houses and apartments today are wood-burning stoves with generous fireplace door panes that allow a clear view of the fire.
The glass that is installed in it is not glass in the true sense of the word, but a further development of toughened safety glass (ESG) – the material refined into glass-ceramic by repeated thermal processing. The annealed material is highly transparent, and even harder and more robust than float glass or ESG.
Owners of wood, gas and pellet fireplaces and stoves for indoor and outdoor use benefit from the generously dimensioned glass-ceramics. And this with an infinite number of options for the shape of the furnace glasses: whether flat, round or angled, planar or bent in any radius and opening angle – from multiradial geometries to cylinders (270 °). With holes and cut-outs for structural elements. With décor or passe-partout print for frameless designs. With translucent black coloring or clear transparency. The 4 or 5 mm thick panes make every stove a cosy eye-catcher and provide effective and reliable protection against sparks and smoke.
To prevent fires falling out of the room from accidentally setting fire to the room when adding wood, fire-resistant flooring has been mandatory for many years in front of wood-burning stoves. For parquet, carpet, laminate and other combustible coverings, spark arrestor panels placed on top of it are a good solution – and glass is a predestined material for this.
A clever side effect: the 6 to 12 mm thick glass plates give the ambience even more resonance in the room by reflecting the fire. In addition, the glass offers a robust, easy-to-clean surface with high bending, impact and impact resistance – one more reason to place the stove on top of it. In this application, too, there are other options to choose from in addition to the classic colours clear and smoked glass, extra-white glass or bronze. The essential processing stage for a spark protection plate is the elegant removal of the outer edge, which should not become a tripping hazard, and with a flat facet cut represents an attractive compromise between great stability and filigree appearance.
